Fave Foods #19,20,21 &22 Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts & Cabbage

FaveFood #19,20,21&22 (catch up) Staying on the “detox” trend: Broccoli, Cauliflower, BrusselsSprouts & Cabbage! These 4 foods usually strike fear into the heat of veggie-phobes, but you would really be missing out if you leave these out of your meal rotations! These foods are all part of a group of foods called cruciferous vegetables and are probably some of the healthiest veggies in the world! Broccoli has always been touted as a bit of a super food. It has been in the spotlight as the poster child for healthy foods numerous times, but the other cruciferous veggies are equally good for you (and tasty, I swear!) Among the vitamin C (which helps you absorb iron btw…),the fibre, the potassium, the calcium and all the other wonderful vitamins and minerals founds in these awesome foods, there is a special phytochemical called Indole 3 Carbinol (I3C) It’s a long fancy name, but all you need to know is that it’s  SUPER powerful at stimulating the detoxification process in the liver and has been shown to be anti-carcinogenic! (It also helps “clean up” excess estrogen in the system which is why much research has focused on the benefits of I3C in estrogen dominant cancers such as breast and ovarian- but don’t worry guys, its ridiculously good for you guys too!!)

One of the most common requests I get is to give people a “detox” to follow. Although the idea of a detox every now and then certainly is a great idea, why not incorporate a detox on a regular basis? Set a goal to increase your intake of I3C rich foods; Including liver friendly foods that stimulate the detoxification process EVERY DAY is an amazing way to keep your body clean and running its best, and these are some of the most detoxifying foods I can think of! I will post a few idea’s for including these foods in your diet throughout the day today and tomorrow. (this post is long enough as is!) Feel free to add your ideas and recipes to them, the more the merrier! And oh yeah, don’t forget to keep drinking that lemon water! You will be “detoxed” in no time! Lol!
